ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Tai Kaye, a 1989 batch Arunachal Pradesh civil service officer has been selected for prestigious ‘Bharat Excellence Award and North Eastern Golden Personalities Award’ in recognition of his meritorious service. The awards instituted by the Friendship Forum of India also carry a gold medal and certificate of excellence. Tai Kaye, a native of Tabi Ripo village, Nari in East Siang district is director of transport and secretary state transport authority. Pay compensation to project affected people: BJP
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: National Council member and spokesperson, BJP State Unit expressed his displeasure to M/s Athena Demwe Power Limited for not disbursing compensations to the people of Anjaw area.
The spokesperson Wangman Lowangcha appealed to the authorities of Athena Demwe Power Ltd. for immediate settlement of compensation and give justice to the people of Anjaw area.
It is worth mentioning that earlier project affected families of Anjaw area had even organized a mass hunger strike at Anjaw on March 11 last, and also submitted representation to state Chief Minister on January 31 last and Chief Managing Director M/s Athena Demwe Power Limited, New Delhi on December 12 last for early payment of compensation but till date no any payment was made to Anjaw part.

International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking observed
Students & youths asked to stay away from drugs
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Arunachal Pradesh today observed the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking with various awareness programme against the use of drugs.
Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) along with Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Naharlagun observed the day with a call to young students to say ‘no to drugs’ at Konkarnallah, Govt Hr. Sec. School Naharlagun.
Addressing the students on the occasion, APSACS Deputy Director (IEC) Tashor Pali explained the harmful effects of drug abuse. He said that drugs can not only ruin a person’s life but also destroy his whole family. It also creates social disturbances like theft, burglary, snatching, street crime etc and contributes to high incidence of HIV/AIDS, he said. Drugs abuse also results into loss of human resources and economic loss.
Explaining the drug abuse, he said that it is a self administration of drug for non medical reasons, which may impair an individual’s ability to function effectively.
Girl students should be cautious while taking drinks as it may contain date rape drugs like Rohypnol, he added.
T Tatan, Principal, Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Naharlagun advised the young students to stay away from the menace of drug and HIV. He asked the students to remain cautious against the people involved in drugs and other illegal activities and asked them to report any such illegal activities in the school campus to the school authority immediately.
M. Pertin, Vice Principal asked the students to learn about the menace of drug and HIV so that they can remain safe and healthy.
APSACS Deputy Director (Blood Safety) Dr. Nabum Budh, informed the student about the different modes of transmission HIV and its preventive measures. He also explained the four stages of HIV before one becomes a AIDS patient.
Later, a quiz competition on Drug and HIV was conducted for the students.
The International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is organised all over the world on June 26 every year. This year’s campaign theme "Make health your 'new high' in life, not drugs" aims to inform the public, and particularly young people, about the harmful effects of new psychoactive substances.

It also resolved that a strong judicial order may be issued to all administrative officials as well as PRI leaders and GBs to stop selling and consuming of illicit drugs. The meeting also urged the State Government to establish a permanent Narcotic Cell at Namsai to nab the peddlers and consumers and book them under Narcotic Drug Act.
Later, the student community took a pledge to abstain drugs and also promised to spread the message to all friends and publics to stay away from drugs.

Eastern Zone, Inspector General of Police Shankar Das, while addressing the mammoth gathering said that prevention is always better than cure. Targeting the vulnerable group of youth he said that it is easier to stay away from drugs than to quit. He appealed the youth to be responsible, committed instead of taking drugs and be ready to contribute to the nation. He said that ruining of life of youth severely affects the security and growth of the nation.

The Gaon Burahs from New Changlang and Rangran villages also shared their personal experiences who successfully overcame opium addiction which was highly motivating.

Encroachment going on unabated at Dapo

DAPORIJO, Jun 26: Land encroachment has become a serious problem in Daporijo, the district headquarters of Upper Subansiri district. The menace is so rampant that many govt. quarters are quickly disappearing from the area.
Is there any authority to check the menace,?
Encroachment has also led to random earth cutting causing soil erosion, deforestation and affecting the entire eco system. It has also destroyed the scenic beauty of Subansiri Valley, once famous for its greenery. Now, only red soils are seen from the naked mountains all around the township up to a stretch of more than five km.
Recently, two persons were reportedly buried alive in landslide and many people are living in very high risk area, where landslide may occur anytime.
District administration had issued prohibitory order against encroachment of government land and quarters, particularly by the government officers and officials. But to no avail.
It is seen that govt. officers and officials erect their own permanent structure by dismantling the existing govt. quarters where they used to reside. Such permanent buildings constructed in govt. land are easily visible in Daporijo.
When questioned, one of land encroachers asserted that the govt. should take action against its own employees first.
It is apprehended that if the encroachment goes on unabated, there will no single Govt. quarter in Daporijo Complex in the next few years. The State Govt. should take serious note of the problem and initiate some drastic step as just giving notice is of no use.
Cancel trading licence of erring beauty parlours: BPACC
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Appreciating the capital police for busting the sex racket in beauty parlour, the Beauty Parlour Association of Capital Complex (BPACC) has appealed the state government to cancel the licence of the three beauty parlours namely, Elisa Beauty Parlour and BN beauty Parlour, Nirjuli and Khusboo beauty parlour, Naharlagun. The three above mentioned beauty parlours were found to be running the sex racket in the garb of running a unisex (ladies and gents) beauty parlour.
In a letter submitted to the chief minister, while stating that the news came as a shock to the many beauty parlour owners who have been doing their job with utmost sincerity also urged him to direct the concern department to verify people before granting them licences to run beauty parlour business.
Meanwhile, the Association while informing that many of their association members are facing harassment after flashing of the parlour sex racket, it said, the busting of the sex racket in the three beauty parlours does not mean that all the parlours practice the same thing. There are many people who do their job sincerely and are not involved in these petty things.
And the word unisex doesn’t mean that all the parlours which has unisex written on it is involved in the sex business, it refers to beauty parlours which offers beauty services to both men and women.
Meanwhile, Nirjuli Market Welfare Committee highly appreciated the police personnel including City SP for unearthing the sex racket in Nirjuli and Naharlagun. The NMWC also urged the authorities to cancel the trading licence of all those beauty parlour which are involved in immoral activities like flesh trading.
District disaster management committee meeting held
ZIRO, Jun 26: A meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) for disaster preparedness was held at Ziro today in the office chamber of Deputy Commissioner Lower Subansiri District.
This meeting was called to discuss preventive and precautionary measures to meet any emergent situation resulting due to natural disaster.
During the meeting various issues were discussed like proper stocking of sufficient food grains and essential commodities; proper stocking of sufficient medicines; availability of potable drinking water; power supply; telecommunication; transportation; men & evacuation materials; activation of search and rescue team; community awareness programme; identification of temporary shelter etc.

Coordination meeting held at Seppa

Kumar Waii, Parliamentary secretary RWD while advising the PRI members said more energy and strength needed to put in place for development of their respective areas realizing the responsibility and purpose for which they have been elected. He suggested the PRI members to take up income generated schemes. He was optimistic to see that ZPM being the parent body of the PRI members shall conduct review meeting with ASMs and GPMs from time to time and also urged them to attend Panchayat training whenever call for. He also urged the HODs to stay at the station and look into the problems of the people. He appealed the ZPMs to work with a vision, proper plans and policies and also to take care of law and order in their respective jurisdiction as development can flourish only in a peaceful society.

Natural resources and peace in Afghan
Sustainable and equitable management of Afghanistan's natural resources such as land, water, forests and minerals can contribute to peace building in the country, according to a United Nations report.
The report, Natural Resource Management and Peace building in Afghanistan, describes how the UN and the international community can assist the Afghan Government to improve the management of natural resources in a way that contributes to peace and development on a national scale.
"Effective management of natural resources will help build peace in Afghanistan,
and therefore development work and investment in all natural resource sectors must
be managed carefully," said the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-
The study, which was funded by the European Union (EU), also aims to encourage international organizations to introduce mechanisms into their projects to ensure that they do not inadvertently exacerbate conflict over natural resources.
Up to 80 per cent of Afghans are directly dependent on natural resources for income and sustenance, and 60 per cent of the population obtain their livelihoods from agriculture, making equitable management of these resources particularly relevant in the country.
Natural resources contribute to underlying tension and conflict in Afghanistan as powerful groups try to gain control over access to irrigation water for downstream provinces, communities compete over land, illegal trade of forest timber and gemstones is widespread, and corruption is rampant.

of natural resources in Afghanistan by building capacity to help implement management

Dear Editor,
It is pathetic to share the pain and grievances of our younger brother Tai Chonam who is very sincere and talented student studying in a reputed institute at Shillong. A senseless culprit had chopped off both the hands of our younger brother on May 13 last at Niti Vihar resident, Itanagar. It hurts the sentiment of our society when a senseless culprit does such cruel act. Chonam’s condition is very critical and treatment is going on at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
We appeal to the authorities concerned to give due importance and investigate the case properly to find out the main cause behind the severe attack. We also request the authority to put the culprit behind bar for lifetime as his presence in the society is very dangerous. We hope justice will be delivered to Chonam and his family members.
